The number of patients with an artificial heart has drastically risen in the last ten years. This affects several thousand people in Germany alone. Ex-VAD is a new study of the German Centre for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK) and is examining whether a tailored physical exercise can improve the fitness and quality of life of patients with an artificial heart.
Ex-VAD is a proof-of-concept prospective, randomised and controlled interventional clinical study funded by the DZHK. It was initiated at the DZHK partner site Berlin by principal investigator Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Frank Edelmann from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.
